Training is focused on empowering and equipping students with the knowledge and competencies required of aged care workers to deliver individualised support to elderly people.

Students will be taught how to use discretion and judgement when providing support and to take ownership of tasks and outcomes.
 
Practical skills will be backed by factual, technical and procedural knowledge and theories. You will learn about the aged care industry, caring for the elderly, enabling independence, understanding and supporting people with dementia, safety procedures, ethical behaviour, infection control, working with cultural diversity, and workplace health and safety. Students will put skills into practice through mandatory work placement.
 

 
  • Working effectively in the aged care industry
  • Caring for the elderly and enabling them to maintain independence
  • Learn how to implement effective communication strategies and work with a diverse range of groups of varying cultures and backgrounds
  • Understanding and supporting people with dementia
  • Providing personal hygiene for people in your care
  • Managing manual handling tasks
  • Safety procedures, infection control practices and ethical behaviour
  • Workplace health and safety
  • You are over 18 years old.
  • You have the physical capability to undertake manual handling and to support clients.
